Kiran
Bedi is being indirectly presented as a CM candidate from BJP for Delhi. Before we vote this brave and outspoken ex-cop we need to know some facts about her, which might not have well known but are
correct and somehow reflect Mrs. Bedi’s original capabilities, behavior,
character and credibility. I have collected some information from some leading newspapers,
judicial proceedings and also known writer and summarized here;
Kiran Bedi, the original media darling
and that she has always been, since she shot to fame for having ordered then
Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s vehicle to be towed away for a parking
violation. Those were not the days of 24/7 television, but she became a regular
on state-run Doordarshan too.
Everyone loved this gutsy, upright
police officer. The media raved about her, and she remained in the news,
irrespective of whether she did anything or not. She came across as someone
incorruptible. The public image of Kiran Bedi remains as spotless
even now. So, when today she talks of corruption, hers is perceived to be an
authoritative voice on the issue. But if corruption is to be seen as an abuse
of power, Bedi herself would have to stand guilty.
Kiran Bedi’s past is so full of many U-TURNS,
CONTROVERSIES, SPATS WITH SENIORS, COURTS, LAWYERS, ABUSE OF POWER, and
outbursts against Narendra Modi that an entire issue of Charlie Hebdo could
be dedicated to satirizing her career.
Her opinion on Modi, before she
inexplicably (or was it part of a political strategy?) changed her mind is well
known, courtesy her tweets. Till a few months before Modi became the PM -- a
fact that must have inspired Bedi to rearrange her thoughts and realign her
political philosophy -- she was continuously attacking him for the Gujarat
riots.
SOME FACTS
ABOUT MRS BEDI
1. CONTRAST
TO GENERAL PERCEPTION SHE HAS NOT BEEN A MERITORIOUS POLICE OFFICER:
She NEVER received the Indian Police Medal for MERITORIOUS
SERVICE or the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service. These
are routinely awarded after completing a certain number of years of service. It
shows that her record is NEITHER meritorious NOR distinguished. (Kiran Bedi must be one of the
very few IPS officers in the country who has not been awarded two medals, wrote
" Gender's Worked for Bedi "by Pankaj Vohra Hindustan Times dt
30/7/07).
2. SHE IS A GREAT
BHAGODA BY NATURE:
It is true that on 4 separate occasions SHE FAILED TO COMPLETE
HER TENURE and at least twice LEFT HER POST WITHOUT PERMISSION which
is TANTAMOUNT TO DESERTION OF DUTY. (She didn't complete her tenure as
Superintendent of Police in Goa, DIG (Range) in Mizoram, Inspector General
(Prisons) Tihar Jail and Inspector General of Police in Chandigarh. The posts
that she left without permission were Goa, in 1983, and Mizoram, in
1992. Speaking to the Sunday Observer on the 27th
September, 1992, she said of Mizoram: "I LEFT WITHOUT
ASKING". Her letter of 25th January,1984 to the Inspector General of
Police in Goa, Mr Rajendra Mohan, establishes that she LEFT ON LEAVE THAT
HAD NOT BEEN SANCTIONED.
3. A BAD AND INCAPABLE ADMINSITRATTOR:
(a) In Delhi
she had a CONTROVERSIAL TENURE in
the West District. As Traffic DCP, she is remembered as Crane Bedi, but she had
to vacate the position on account of her mishandling
of the traffic problem.
(b) She was
Inspector General in Chandigarh for 41 days. Then the Adviser to the
Administrator wrote to the Home Ministry to ask for her removal on the grounds
that her presence in Chandigarh was "NOT IN PUBLIC INTEREST".
4. SHE IS A TRAITOR TOO:
It is a fact that as DIG (Range) in Mizoram
the GOVERNOR ISSUED A FORMAL NOTE of displeasure against her for LEAKING
INFORMATION to the press.
5. SHE CAN COMPROMISE NATIONAL SECURITY:
It is true that when PRESIDENT
VENKATRAMAN VISITED MIZORAM the Governor became aware of HER PLANS TO
DISRUPT THE VISIT and informed the INTELLIGENCE BUREAU THAT SHE COULD
NOT BE TRUSTED with CLASSIFIED INFORMATION AND SECURITY.
6. A REBBELAIN UNDER THE ADMINISTRATIVE MASK:
(a) She was accused of INSTIGATING JUNIOR
POLICE OFFICERS TO DEFY THE ADMINISTRATION because she disagreed with
certain suspension orders issued at the time. The press said she was "SOWING
SEEDS OF REBELLION".
(b)
Wadhwa Commission, headed by Justice Wadhwa, then a sitting judge of the Delhi High
Courtdeclared that BEDI HAD CONNIVED WITH A MUNICIPAL
COUNCILOR IN ORGANISING AND TRANSPORTING A MOB TO TIZ HAZARI who then
assaulted the lawyers. The
report virtually established that Kiran Bedi had hatched a conspiracy with a
congress comparator and also USED SOME
CRIMINALS SO THAT THEY COULD ATTACK the lawyers demanding her ouster.
(c)
Report of Wadhawa commission was accepted by
the HOME MINISTRY and TABLED IN THE PARLIAMENT with an assurance
to lawyers that BEDI WILL NEVER BE POSTED IN DELHI IN ANY IMPORTANT POSITION.
7. A CHRONIC
LIAR:
In 1988 she was a CENTRAL FIGURE during
the lawyers strike of that year. Even her authorized biography admits that the WADHWA
COMMISSION, which investigated the matter, "FOUND FAULT WITH
KIRAN". The press has claimed he called her "A CHRONIC
LIAR".
8. CORRUPT TOO :
She had secured her daughter’s
admission to an MBBS course in Delhi’s Lady Hardinge College under THE
MIZORAM QUOTA. The purpose of the reservation was to ensure local students
get its benefit and BEDI HAD TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF A LOOPHOLE IN THE LAW. When
Mizoram became too hot to handle, BEDI ONCE AGAIN LEFT. Incidentally,
her daughter also dropped out of the course later.
9. A GREAT OPPORTUNIST
(a)
She went for 3 month protest leave when SHE
WAS NOT MADE COMMISSIONER of police later she cancelled the leave and
resumed office.
(b)
She has been a big critic of Narendra Modi,
now praising him like as he is God just to
get chief minister chair.
(In March, Bedi tweeted: "One
day NaMo will need to respond with clarity about riots massacre. Despite Courts
clearing him so far.") and in April 2012, she has argued that Modi may
have passed the SIT exam but was yet to clear the test of ‘prevailing
perception of serious incidents’ under his watch).
